SureSmile Clear Aligners

Home » SureSmile Clear Aligners

Many adults are under the impression that it’s too late to fix their crooked teeth and jaw alignment issues. Thanks to advances in orthodontics, patients of all ages can improve the aesthetics of their smiles and protect their oral health with clear aligner therapy. Dr. Ryan Thompson at Thompson Dental in McKinney uses the SureSmile system’s advanced imaging tools and computer software for precise diagnosis and planning to improve patients’ smiles without the hassle of traditional braces.

Benefits of SureSmile

Dental crowding, crooked teeth, and malocclusion are more than an aesthetic nuisance. When your teeth don’t fit together correctly, it adds stress to your jaw and uneven wear and tear on your teeth. It can also make brushing and flossing less effective, which increases your risk for decay and gum disease. SureSmile makes straightening teeth discreet, and the removable trays mean you don’t have to give up any of your favorite foods or come in for frequent adjustments.

The clear aligners can treat many of the same issues as traditional orthodontics without the metal brackets to make your smile stand out. SureSmile can even treat more complex problems than other clear aligner therapies, and in many cases, treatment time is quicker thanks to the customized fit. Patients can review a final tooth placement model, and we welcome their input-on changes to the therapy to help them meet their aesthetic goals.

What to expect from treatment

Dr. Thompson will evaluate your condition during your initial consultation and determine if SureSmile is the best option for you. If he recommends SureSmile, he’ll create digital impressions of your teeth, take pictures, and use x-rays to send to the lab for planning your treatment. Once the results are ready, you’ll come back into the office to evaluate the treatment plan, make any changes needed, and order the trays from the lab.

Patients can expect to use the aligner trays for 6-18 months and will need to wear a retainer to maintain results for about the same length of time as their initial treatment. Because the aligner trays are removable, you’ll need to commit to wearing them 20-22 hours a day, or results may take longer. Dr. Thompson will discuss the best ways to clean and care for your trays once you receive them to ensure clean, healthy teeth throughout the process.
