OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA AND HOME SLEEP TEST
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a serious medical condition that interferes with a person’s ability to breathe during sleep. However, the affected individual may not even realize what is happening. In fact, snoring is often the only noticeable symptom. Traditionally, apnea and similar disorders are diagnosed with a sleep study conducted in a laboratory. Thankfully, today’s patients have a more convenient alternative in the form of a unique device that can collect data while you sleep in the comfort of your own home. Thompson Dental in McKinney, Texas, is proud to offer the WatchPAT300™ Home Sleep Test.
WHAT IS THE WATCHPAT300™ HOME SLEEP TEST?
This system allows you to avoid the expense, inconvenience, and discomfort of spending the night in a laboratory for a full sleep study. Yet, it provides the peace of mind that comes with accurate, detailed data evaluated by a board-certified sleep physician. The process is simple, comfortable, and reliable:
- The first step is an evaluation, right here at Thompson Dental. We will perform an examination and ask you some simple questions to determine if you might have apnea.
- If a sleep test is recommended, we provide a small, lightweight, comfortable device. You will take it home and wear it while you sleep. The device collects a wealth of data about your breathing patterns, oxygen levels, heart rate, and more.
- The exclusive WatchPAT300™ system uses a highly secure, cloud-based platform to transfer the data to a trusted sleep physician within the network. That physician will analyze the data and create a detailed diagnostic report, which is accessible to your dentist.
- During your follow-up appointment at Thompson Dental, your dentist will go over the report with you and explain what it means. We will discuss the next steps based on your results. Treatment options may include CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) or a custom-made oral appliance by yours truly.
