At Thompson Dental, we understand that a missing tooth can impact even the most beautiful of smiles. Our cosmetic and restorative dentist, Dr. Ryan J. Thompson, can restore the smile with restorations that are not only affordable but beautiful. One option for patients looking to restore teeth is that of the dental bridge, a type of reconstruction used to replace one or more missing teeth in a row.

What is a dental bridge?

Dr. Ryan J. Thompson describes the dental bridge as a particular appliance custom-made for a patient to fill the area where a tooth has been extracted or lost. Most dental bridges use the adjacent teeth to hold the bridge in place, “bridging the gap” that a lost tooth leaves behind. That eliminates the chances of the surrounding teeth shifting out of place or becoming misaligned.

What types of dental bridges are available?

There are many varieties of dental bridges for patients to choose from. These include:

  • Cantilever bridge
  • “Maryland” dental bridge
  • Fixed dental bridge (most popular)

Which type of bridge is right for me?

Determining if you are a good candidate for a dental bridge is the first step in the right direction towards repairing the smile. During the initial consultation appointment and evaluation with Dr. Thompson, patients will learn about all the available options. Then, the types of bridges are discussed to help patients learn more about each kind and choose the most appropriate one for their unique situation.
