McKinney, Texas, area patients who need dental restorations such as dental crowns may find out that with a traditional dental office, there is a process that requires extended time and several visits. This includes an appointment for the consultation, an appointment for preparation of the tooth and impressions, and an appointment to return for bonding the final restoration in place. However, with Dr. Ryan J. Thompson and his team at Thompson Dental, patients can enjoy single-visit dentistry and eliminate extra appointments thanks to the CEREC crown procedure and process.
Find out what sets a CEREC dentist apart from other dentists in the community. If you are interested in working with a dental team that offers single-visit dentistry, continue learning about the process.
Ryan J. Thompson of Thompson Dental describes CEREC as a computer-aided design and manufacturing system used to make dental restorations, such as crowns, implant crowns, bridges and veneers. In other words, CEREC technology allows the creation of custom-made dental restoration materials in a single visit to the dentist. This eliminates the need for messy impressions and multiple appointments to complete the process of restoring a natural tooth.
First, a digital impression of the affected tooth is taken using a special camera. This impression is then used to create a 3D image on a computer screen. The dentist can then customize and design the restoration on the computer before sending it to an in-office milling machine to create the actual restoration material. This is done right in the office in about 30-45 minutes, allowing Dr. Ryan J. Thompson and his team to bond the dental crown in place during the same appointment. Patients can arrive in need of a dental crown and leave with their final restoration!
CEREC crowns eliminate the need for multiple office visits, as the entire procedure can be completed in just one visit. Additionally, CEREC restorations require less drilling and typically result in less tooth reduction. These restorations also have a natural appearance and feel, just like more traditional lab-created crowns and restorations. Many patients love the idea of getting everything done during a single appointment, especially if they experience dental anxiety and need to ask for sedation dentistry to get through their time in the dentist’s chair. This saves time, money, and energy for both our dental team and our patients!
